Empowering Young Minds for a Brighter Tomorrow
The strength of any educational institution lies in its academic foundation. At YOnua Francis International School, we are committed to nurturing the academic growth of our students by implementing well-structured, modern, and globally competitive learning frameworks that prepare them for future success.
Onua follows the Ghana Education Service (GES) curriculum but enhances it with a more structured and internationally aligned approach to meet the standards of a world-class basic school. Beyond the core curriculum, we go the extra mile by incorporating additional academic programs designed to broaden students’ knowledge, skills, and critical thinking abilities. These extra academic programs at Onua include:
Explore Our Teaching and Learning
Our kindergarten is a vibrant space where young minds embark on a journey of discovery! Through creative art projects, engaging music sessions, interactive storytelling, and exciting outdoor play, we nurture curiosity, creativity, and overall growth. Every activity is designed to inspire a love for learning in a fun and supportive environment. Come be a part of this joyful adventure!
Facilitators are encouraged to conduct regular assessments to ensure students fully comprehend the lessons taught. Daily evaluations, whether oral or written, help track learners' progress and address any gaps in understanding.
In addition to daily assessments, students undergo a comprehensive monthly evaluation covering all topics studied within the month. Beyond internal assessments, Junior High School (JHS 3) finalists also participate in the annual Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), administered by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), to assess their readiness for the next stage of their academic journey.
Our school upholds a structured approach to learning by assigning regular homework and research tasks. These activities reinforce classroom instruction and cultivate independent study habits among students.
We encourage parents to support their children by guiding them through their assignments, offering explanations when needed. However, to promote critical thinking and self-reliance, parents should refrain from completing tasks or providing direct answers on behalf of their children.
The classes have been grouped into four (4) departments each, headed by a departmental head.
- Preschool Department (crèche, nursery and kindergarten)
- Lower Primary (Basic 1 to Basic 3)
- Upper Primary (Basic 4 to Basic 6)
- Junior High Department (JHS1-3)
